Abby received her undergraduate degree in Sports Science from Loras College in 2007 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from University of Iowa in 2009. She went on to complete the University of Evansville/ProRehab, PC Sports Residency in 2013 and received her Certification in Sports Physical Therapy shortly after.
Over the course of her career, Abby has had the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan ranging from 4-99 years old in many aspects of patient care including sports on and off of the field, orthopedics and neurological including stroke and concussion. She has had the opportunity to work with athletes from a pediatric setting through a professional setting and has continued to evolve over her practice with the goal to never settle and always get better.
Abby treats with the motto, “There is no I in Team.” She originally encountered this on the athletic field as a multisport athlete in high school and a collegiate runner, but it developed importance within her personal and professional life. She feels that a team approach with physical therapy is the best way to achieve the goal of getting better. Sometimes it is simply the physical therapist/patient team, but it can also be important to bring in additional teammates and often the best within his or her specialty whether its rehab, mental health, nutrition or fitness related goals. Sometimes that is all that is needed, but sometimes coaches, teammates, strength coaches, nutrition, and even mental health interventions are also needed to create the best outcomes. I feel this team approach can create the best outcomes as we can create the best goals to motivate and drive one another to become better.
Using her “team,” she puts her knowledge as a movement specialist into play. Movement is the basis for all human function and when it is not restored, she believes that quality of life and level of function diminishes. Using methods such as Selective Functional Movement Assessment, Functional Movement Screen, Fundamental Capacity Screen and Y Balance Test, she diagnoses, treats, and ensures proper return to activity and life. Following residency, she has pursued more certifications with On Base University and Titleist Performance Institute, Functional Dry Needling and Graston Techniques.
In her free time, Abby enjoys lifting weights, biking, playing volleyball, walking her dogs, attending sporting events, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
