Pilates is an exercise regimen that was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Pilates has long been recognized for its therapeutic benefits because of its focus on spine stability and mobility, muscle length and strength, posture and alignment, and breathing.
Pilates principles include balance, concentration, control, centering, fluidity, precision and breath. When all of these principles are integrated into an exercise program, the result is alignment of the spine and extremities in their most optimum and stable positions, muscular balance, normal movement patterns, improved body awareness and control.
Our Pilates rehabilitation therapists create an individualized exercise program using specialized Pilates equipment in the clinic while integrating a mat program for home use to assist in our patient’s recovery.
With consistent performance of Pilates in the clinic and with a custom home exercise program, our patients can achieve improved athletic performance, decreased pain, improve post-operative recovery, manage scoliosis, improve posture and balance and prevent future injury. This will result in improved function and wellness for a healthy and happy lifestyle.
